Before shopping here at our Chattanooga, TN Volkswagen dealership, learn how the latest new Atlas compares to some other popular midsized SUVs. We're pitting the new Atlas up against the latest Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride SUVs.
Volkswagen Atlas vs Hyundai Palisade

Volkswagen Atlas

Hyundai Palisade
VEHICLE COMPARISON
Volkswagen Atlas | Hyundai Palisade | |
---|---|---|
Engine Power | 269 hp | 291 hp |
Engine Torque | 273 lb-ft | 262 lb-ft |
Transmission | 8-speed automatic | 8-speed automatic |
Fuel Tank Capacity | 18.6 gal | 18.8 gal |

Performance
With a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, the new VW Atlas isn't quite as peppy as the new Hyundai Palisade, with 269 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque versus 291 horsepower with 262 pound-feet of torque. However, befitting a turbo powertrain, the Atlas is a bit more efficient than the new Palisade, helping you save on gas costs as you drive your family around Chattanooga.
Interior
With comfortable seating across three rows, the Atlas is the superior ride compared to the new Palisade when it comes to carrying passengers and cargo. The Volkswagen three-row SUV is especially roomy for cargo, with 20.6 cubic feet of standard cargo room that maximizes to 96.8 cubic feet when both the second and third rows are folded down. That far exceeds the 18 standard cubic feet and max 86.4 cubic feet of cargo room in the new Hyundai Palisade.
Technology
These days, most modern rides are equipped with all kinds of touchscreen-controlled infotainment features, and both of these SUVs found around Cleveland and Dalton are no exception. You don't have to only rely on avid VW fans to know the Atlas has an infotainment system that's far more comprehensive and easier to use than the Hyundai brand's take on similar features.
Safety
The same idea goes for the high-end driver assistance features found in both the new VW Atlas and the Hyundai Palisade. With the Volkswagen suite of driver aids helping the Atlas earn high-end accolades for safety, you'll be confident when driving around Chattanooga thanks to standard collision avoidance, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and more. The Palisade also boasts a comprehensive suite of safety systems, but we've found they're not quite as responsive when needed and overly sensitive when you're just trying to enjoy your ride.
Volkswagen Atlas vs Kia Telluride

Volkswagen Atlas

Kia Telluride
VEHICLE COMPARISON
Volkswagen Atlas | Kia Telluride | |
---|---|---|
Engine Power | 269 hp | 291 hp |
Engine Torque | 273 lb-ft | 262 lb-ft |
Transmission | 8-speed automatic | 8-speed automatic |
Fuel Tank Capacity | 18.6 gal | 18.8 gal |

Performance
Once again, the Atlas falls short in terms of horsepower, though it bests the new Telluride with better torque and efficiency. Though the 3.8-liter V-6 in the Telluride is larger and more powerful than the turbocharged four-cylinder, you'll enjoy slightly better takeoff time thanks to the better torque in the Atlas, while over the long haul, you'll spend less on gas thanks to the VW SUV's superior fuel economy.
Interior
Again, the new VW Atlas provides what family drivers want out of their SUVs: plenty of space inside. Though the Atlas maxes out with seats for only seven compared to the eight passengers the Kia Telluride can carry around Dalton, you'll have much more room for cargo in the VW model. With 96.8 total cubic feet of max cargo room, you can squeeze much more inside the Atlas than you can with the Telluride, which offers up to 87 cubic feet when all rear seats are folded down.

Technology
As Volkswagen has long been one of the most forward-thinking automakers in the world, it's no surprise that the standard and available tech features in the Atlas are far better than those found or offered in the new Telluride. Having easy touchscreen and voice commands to use while you're on the go around Cleveland keeps you safe and focused on the road, which is what the Atlas offers and where the Telluride lacks.
Safety
You're certainly welcome to test drive a new Kia Telluride just like we invite you to our Chattanooga dealership to try out the Atlas, giving you a preview of both of these SUVs' modern safety systems. You'll quickly find the Atlas, like other VW models, uses subtle, sensible, and helpful driver aids like collision avoidance and lane keeping while the systems offered in the Kia SUV are much jerkier and more distracting than they are helpful.
